Brookfield Academy
An Early Learning Center
Brookfield Academy achieves Center
of Distinction

The Center of Distinction certificate is awarded to child care centers that
meet a high level of quality childcare for children 0-4 years old. Center
of Distinction was awarded for the care and education being provided in
infant, toddler and preschool classrooms. The observation teams use
the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale, Revised Edition and the
Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale, Revised Edition, both written
by Thelma Harms, Debby Cryer and Richard M. Clifford to assess center-
based programs. The child care learning center's average score from
the observation is used to determine if a child care learning center
meets the state's criteria for the highest award, Center of Distinction
(scoring 5.0 – 7.0) or the next level, Center of Recognition (scoring 4.0
– 4.99).
